Plans are taking shape now for Carnival to return to Midsomer Norton High Street on the 10th November. At the recent Chamber AGM there was resounding support for the new plans on the basis that Carnival would promote the town and thereby attract increased footfall.

Steve Collins, chairman of the Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association which organises the annual event which at present takes place in Westfield, explained that a three year trial has seen the dates of Somerset’s historic carnivals shuffled giving the organisers in Midsomer Norton the chance to revamp the small carnival by improving the route and encouraging larger floats to take part. He added that the ‘once in a generation opportunity’ needs support from the local community.

As a Chamber we are working closely with the Carnival Association to ensure that disruption to local businesses can be minimised through careful planning and consultation. There will be a Chamber evening devoted to Carnival in the coming months.
